Meet Peter Buchholz: A Photographer with a Passion for the Next Shot

From Germany with a Camera

Peter Buchholz resides in Germany, where he balances two very different worlds: law enforcement and photography. While photography isn’t his full-time profession, it’s far more than a hobby. By day, Peter serves as a dedicated police officer, and by every other opportunity, he is behind the lens, capturing faces and moments with striking clarity.

The Gear Behind the Vision

Peter prefers mirrorless cameras, favoring the flexibility and image quality they offer. His go-to camera bodies are the Sony A7IV and Sony A7RII, both known for their high-resolution capabilities. When it comes to lenses, his favorite is the Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8, a fast and sharp lens that perfectly complements his love for portraiture.

A Journey That Began on the Road

Peter’s entry into photography began 25 years ago through travel photography. As he explored different parts of the world, he began documenting his road trips through landscapes, city scenes, detailed close-ups, and even macro photography. It wasn’t until years later that his passion naturally shifted toward portrait photography, where he found a deeper connection to storytelling and human emotion.

Portraits with Purpose

Today, Peter is drawn to the art of capturing people. Portraiture, for him, is about connection, expression, and presence. He finds inspiration in every subject and values the creative process as much as the final image. When asked about his favorite shoot, he says, “The most favorite shoot for me is always the next one.” This forward-looking mindset fuels his ongoing growth as a photographer.

Dreaming in Icelandic Landscapes

If given the opportunity to shoot anywhere in the world, Peter would head to Iceland. With its breathtaking mix of glaciers, waterfalls, volcanoes, and rugged terrain, Iceland represents a dream backdrop for an adventurous model shoot. He envisions traveling the landscape on- and off-road in an old Land Rover, capturing the raw beauty of nature paired with human presence in the frame.
